Heritage Decorative Rock at Riverbend Rock and Mulch

Hello friends of Kansas City!

Let’s talk about rocks. Rocks, you say?! Yes, Kansas City, ROCKS! What better way to spend our day? Don’t’ answer that… just roll with me. Pun intended. Have you ever looked at your neighbors landscaping and planned an entire project in that one glance? Yes?? You are NOT alone. I love thinking up projects that I can take on. With three kids, two furry babies, the world’s biggest yard to mow and so much more…. Why wouldn’t I plan ANOTHER project? What kind of multitasker would I be if I missed this opportunity to add more to my schedule? Who’s with me??

So the first decision we have to make comes down to Rock versus Mulch. This is a tough one! It depends on if you are the type of person that likes to spend a little more upfront, install it once, and be done! Now, you get to wash your hands of it in the years to come and simply enjoy the view. OR if you prefer you can choose to go with a lighter load up front, financially and physically, while having to then refresh it every year. Personally, I love the finality of one and done (I’m looking at you, landscape rock) so that is my jam. However, I do use Cedar Mulch from Riverbend Rock & Mulch every year to refresh the look of our fruit trees, lilac bushes and hostas I snagged from Riverbend Rock & Mulch’s greenhouse! Can you ever have too much green? No. You just can’t.

Now to pick the decorative rock, this is a tough one!

If you are not a decision-maker, bring one with you! The staff at Riverbend Rock & Mulch is asked all the time to pick the rock for projects, and let me tell you that we will not do it! Why? Because we love all of our rocks the same! You are asking us to pick a favorite child, and although we all know they exist, don’t make us!!

Heritage Decorative Rock!

One, and I mean this is only one, of my favorites is the Heritage Landscape Rock that Riverbend Rock & Mulch keeps in stock. If you are a fan of light pops of color represented by a smooth cobblestone this is your pick! With the size being only 1.5”, it spreads and covers easier than a larger cobble and looks AMAZING in small spaces. Although this joins the family of river rocks, this sibling makes a stand all her own! Pictures simply don’t do Heritage Decorative Rock any justice, although I am going to try and post one just for kicks. Now if you are trying to match this with surroundings, or bring out a specific color in our Heritage Decorative Rock, let’s go back to Elementary Art Class and pull out our color wheel. When you consider the color wheel with Riverbend’s Heritage Landscape Rock, we can use the pops of dark gray/purple and pink! To accent, the dark gray/purple, stop in and look for some plants in the greenhouse that are yellow and/or orange. Marigolds would be a great accent as a plant, and our Natural Stone Rustic Edgers would be a great partner in edging. If you are wanting to focus on the pinks/reds in this beautiful rainbow, green is your friend! (I mean, I am also your friend but let’s stay focused on our landscaping). Check out our ENORMOUS selection of shrubs, plants… really everything that is green in our locally owned greenhouse! As for picking an edger for this color, our natural stone blue tumbled edger would be right on the edge of an accent piece here, and while it will help pull out the red hues, it will also help pull out the gray/blue colors! When thinking colors and schemes, sometimes it is easiest to remember that like likes like! (Say that three times fast!)
