The Advantages of Buying Plants From a Local Garden Center

When it comes to growing plants, you have three options. You can start by buying a packet of seeds and trying to get them to sprout yourself. For people in the 21st century that’s often a lot to ask. You can also visit a bulk nursery like Lowe’s or Home Depot to get plants for pennies. But, more often than not, you’ll find you get what you pay for. You see, when it comes to shopping for plants, bigger stores aren’t always better. Third, you can visit a local nursery. And, though we may be biased, we think that’s your best bet. Below are a few benefits of opting for Riverbend Rock and Mulch over DIY or large garden centers:

1. Hardier Products:

   Some seeds may not sprout in the color you’re looking for. Or, worse, you might end up with a packet of low-quality, rotten seeds. Buying starter plants from us eliminates both of those problems. Since they’re already established, our plants are also less likely to fall prey to disease and pests.

2. Convenience:

   Starting with seeds means you’ll need garden soil, pots, and indoor UV lighting. Transplants from a local greenhouse, however, allow you to skip a lot of the mess and labor of gardening. Just pull them from their replant in a location of your choosing. After that, just add a little bit of fertilizer.

3. Native Plants:

   Big-box stores tend to stock the same things across most locations. This sometimes leads to a lack of native plants and landscaping that sticks out like a sore thumb. As a company local to the Kansas City area, we know what grows here. And, we don’t sell anything that doesn’t.

4. No Foreign Pests:

   All of our plants are grown stateside. That means you don’t have to worry about some plant-killing virus from overseas. You also won’t wind up taking home a spider or lizard from halfway around the world.

Darkibor Kale

A darker kale known for its sturdiness and tightly curled leaves. High in potassium and vitamin B6. Grown with love in our plant nursery in Independence, Missourri.

Neon Rose Petunia

The hot pink blooms of this plant stand out like lights on the Vegas strip in any garden setting. Blooming in both spring and fall, they’re a great choice for Missouri’s climate.

Trident Hybrid Pepper

A large pepper plant known for its perfect balance of heat and flavor. Referred to as Anchos when dried and Poblanos when green. They are often used in mole.
